ON THE HILL
Located in a former underground bunker and surrounded by the beautiful nature of Idrijske Krnice, this new private wellness centre with capacity for up to 4 people features a Finnish sauna with a bathroom and a relaxation area for those who wish to relax in a unique setting.
The interior furnishings follow the trend of using natural materials from the local environment, which can already be seen in the main house. Handmade furniture, reused brickwork on the floor, combined with the sophisticated architectural design of the building itself give this wellness area a safe and cosy feel.
History
IDRIJSKE KRNICE
Its high position and steep slopes above the Idrijca and Kanomljica rivers, made the village of Idrijske Krnice a strategic point where the army was safe from enemy attacks. It is estimated that the bunkers on this plateau were built in the time before the Italian army attacked Yugoslavia in April 1941 to store ammunition and protect soldiers.
In the immediate vicinity of House on the Hill, there are three underground structures dating back to the period of Italian occupation which are part of the so-called Alpine Wall (an Italian fortification system stretching from the French to the then Yugoslav border).
Unlike the other two, the interior of the cylinder-shaped bunker opposite the house was not quite finished before the start of the war. Due to weather conditions, the partially excavated structure had already begun to show the wear and tear of time, so we decided to renovate it and use it as a place of relaxation.
